Our Founder
Toya M. Carpenter
Pita’s Place was founded by Toya M. Carpenter out of a deep, personal connection to the struggles of addiction. Having witnessed her grandmother, aunt, and mother battle substance abuse, Toya understands firsthand the heartache addiction brings to families. Despite her unwavering love and support, her mother continues to struggle with alcohol addiction—a reality that has shaped Toya’s mission to help other women on their path to recovery.
From this experience, a passion was ignited—a passion to help women who are ready to reclaim their lives. Toya knows the longing of a child yearning for their mother to overcome addiction, and she channels that understanding into creating a safe, empowering, and faith-driven environment for women in recovery. Pita’s Place isn’t just about sobriety; it’s about renewal, independence, and transformation.
Toya is committed to building out comprehensive programs designed to equip women with the skills necessary for long-term success. These include:
Financial literacy workshops covering credit education and budgeting.
Career development training focusing on resume building, interview skills, and workplace readiness.
Personal development courses such as makeup and self-care classes to help restore confidence and self-worth.
At the core of Pita’s Place is faith—a guiding light that Toya believes is essential to overcoming life’s greatest challenges. She has integrated faith-based principles into the foundation of the program, ensuring that every woman has something and someone to lean on in their weakest moments.
“God is within her, she will not fall;” – Psalm 46:5
Through faith, education, and empowerment, Toya M. Carpenter is changing lives, one woman at a time. Pita’s Place is more than a home—it’s a new beginning.
